VP of Membership Duties
Duties of VP of Membership:
1. Attend the TLI training at the beginning of your term. THIS IS IMPORTANT, as it is very valuable training and gives us the necessary points for earning the President's Distinguished Club award.
2. You are responsible for maintaining the membership of the club.
a. Periodically, remind members to wear their name tags. This helps new members and guest become familiar with our members.
b. Remind members periodically to invite guests. This is surprisingly effective, especially if you remind the members of the benefits that membership does bring to new members.
c. There are three membership campaigns that Toastmaster's International sponsors. We typically concentrate on the Smedley award which starts in August and runs through September. However, all three campaigns can be effective in motivating members to bring guest and potential member candidates. Use them as opportunities to encourage members to bring guests.
3. You are responsible for adding new members to the club website, as well as, adding the new member to the Toastmaster International membership. To do this, simply login to the www.toastmasters.org and go to the Members Site, then club central, then Dobson Ranch and finally add new member. Fill in the requested information and retain the application by giving it to the current secretary. For www.drtm.org, login in and then click on add new member in your member control panel. Fill in the information requested (click on Location to enter the new members address), make sure your check the Notify user of new account checkbox just below the Roles: section. For Roles check active member and applicant.
From time to time, the treasurer or secretary may add the new member to the toastmaster website. However, you are responsible for adding the member to the drtm.org website so that the new member is assigned meeting roles and is notified of upcoming events!
4. You are responsible for inducting new members into the club. This is an important function that allows new members to feel that they have joined something special. You will find an induction ceremony speech at the bottom of this page as well as an induction recitation for new and old members. The ceremony should be conducted no more than once a month but should be timed so that a new member is inducted into the club within 1 month of joining Dobson Ranch Toastmasters.
5. You are responsible for recognizing a new member once they have completed their first 'ice breaker' speech. Please make sure that there are ice breakers available. You can purchase new ice breaker mints to give to the new member and the treasurer will reimburse for the charges. Again, this ceremony should be no more than once a month but timed so that the member is recognized within a few weeks of giving his/her ice breaker!
